Natural leader helps her chapter, church

Janie DeRevere enjoys lending a helping hand whenever she can. She takes on roles that give her the ability to contribute within Maricopa Unified Chapter 686 and within her church, Lighthouse Foursquare Church.

DeRevere, a health technician, became involved with her chapter about five years ago. She served as chapter secretary and when she saw that there was a need for a chapter president, she stepped up to the challenge.

“What I’m enjoying most about being involved in the chapter leadership is the negotiations,” DeRevere said.

To garner their most recent contract with a wage increase and benefits, DeRevere said chapter members had to attend board meetings to make sure that their voices were heard.

Besides being a mover within CSEA, DeRevere also served as the leader of the Women’s Ministry at Lighthouse Foursquare Church, which her family has attended for 25 years.

During her eight-year leadership of the women’s ministry, DeRevere said that she would organize monthly meetings to go over the church’s goals and plan fundraisers.

“I was in charge of the mission dinners so that we could send money to the missionaries,” she said. “We would do a huge dinner and invite the public.”

Whether raising funds for her church or leading her chapter, De Revere is an embodiment of selflessness.
